This was the second budget meeting. The Board and Senior Administrators sat around a rectangular table configuration in the Library auditorium. There was an audience of about 20.
The Board reviewed proposed cuts in Health Staff; Security, Custodial, and Clerical; and Maintenance. With the maintenance staff the Board decided to take separate votes on each item, and ended up agreeing to them all.
I heard that the meeting had to end early because there were not enough Board members for a quorum. (The seven Board Members present when I left were Bowles, DeMarco, Fucheck, Giudice, McAfee, Poppiti, Woodhull.)
Apparently, there was discussion of summer school and suggestions that it only be offered for students on 12 month IEPs, seniors in need of graduation requirements, and eighth graders in need of requirements to enter High School. Also there was a proposal to cut half of the teaching assistants at the first grade level. These proposals were "bubbled".
Finally, there were reminders from Bowles and Assistant Superintendent of Finance Pacella that the Board really needs to make decisions now in order to meet the expected requirement to accomplish cuts in the amount of $8m.
