On Page 29 of the print edition of the Mid Hudson Times on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 there appeared this short article:
Newburgh BOE candidates
It was announced last week that newcomers John Giudice, Pamela Resch, and Nathan Vesely will run against incumbent (and school board prsident) Runston Lewis to fill three vacancies on the Newburgh Enlarged city School District Board of Education.
The annual school board election and school budget vote will take place on Tuesday, May 19.
Pamela Resch is a current member of the Newburgh Schools BOE, so it's unclear in what sense the three are newcomers. If the three are running together it would be interesting to know what issue unites them. Also, where was this announced?
JOHN GIUDICE
JOHN N. GUIDICE SHOULD BE YOUR CHOICE BECAUSE HE WANTS TO TAKE SOME OF THE TAXES OFF OFF THE HOMEOWNERS AND WILL PERSENT THEN TP THE STATE
John Guidice has a NO platform
Just about every BOE member across NY panders to the public's wish to take the tax burden off the local property tax payer. Their problem is that it is a legislative matter, BOE may talk, but they have no ability to chang the property tax problem. Simply suggesting that Albany should do something is not a solution to reducing taxes. BOE can do one thing immediately CUT EXPENSES!
JOHN GIUDICE
It would be nice if he wanted to do something that Board of Education Members have authority to do.
Who are these people running for BOE
As a new resident I am at a loos to understand why no newspaper or community group or this forum has made the effort to inform the public of these candidates' qualifications and point of view re the Newburgh Schools; the budget, the programs, the policies, etc.
Neither have I heard from any of these candidates. There are no letters to the editor, no public statements or mailings. What kind of election is this - whispers and rumors instead of hearing from the candidates themselves.
Just how is a voter to decide or is it this a "private" election for the insiders to decide?
Who are these people running for BOE
Thank you very much for this comment. Your concerns are shared by many.
correction on running mates
Thanks for the correction. In retrospect, I believe the brief article mistakenly didn't recognize Pamela Resch as a current Board Member, which allowed for a confusing interpretation of what was meant.
